Feral Faerie Farm

A permaculture homestead striving for self-reliance

Beginnings and bittersweet endings

We own a farm. Never in a million years did I ever think I’d say that. The path to owning the farm has been a tad stressful with many ups and downs, but it’s over. It is ours!

As this dream has come true I’ve realized many things. The first being that sometimes you have a dream and the dream is so huge and overwhelming that you don’t really think much about what happens after the dream comes true. Eric’s had decades with this dream and has thought of so many details. This is a newer dream for me and all of the 1,000’s of decisions that need to be made are making my head spin. So for now, I’m focusing on those things that are beginning and some of those things that are ending for us. All the little decisions will just have to wait until I gain a little more knowledge of homesteading.

Beginnings

::Loving my new neighbors. I didn’t think it would be possible to score the best neighbors on the face of the planet, but I think I’ve come pretty close. I am so glad we will all get to learn and share with them.

:: Rural living is going to be awesome. Have I mentioned to you how nice everyone is down there? Everyone. Holding doors, helping with out being asked, genuinely asking you how your day is and really wanting to know the answer, and buying local is taking on a whole new meaning when the local means just a hill away.

:: We have a new crawler in the family! Considering this is our first to crawl before one, we are so incredibly excited. He’s starting to stand up now too. This big little boy sure is melting our hearts.

:: Finding a new groove between two houses. I’m now starting to realize how hard this is going to be. We all want to be at the farm, but there is so much work to do here.

:: Our first plants went into the ground at the farm. Jasper started his first dirt pile.
